2008 Taste of Tillamook County News and Press Releases

TILLAMOOK, Ore. – February 21, 2008 – This is the last call to all the amateur chefs and cooking enthusiast that want to submit their macaroni and cheese dish to the Taste of Tillamook County’s Amateur Mac-n-Cheese Contest. Anyone that has a homemade macaroni and cheese recipe that is extraordinary or a recipe that creates a different spin on macaroni and cheese than the traditional joining of noodles and cheese should enter.

This fun annual contest has been an anticipated part of the Taste of Tillamook County event since 2004. Anyone wishing to enter with their best macaroni and cheese dish simply needs to fill out and return an entry form by Feb. 27. Entry forms and contest rules are available online at www.tasteoftillamookcounty.com/mac.htm or by calling the Economic Development Council at 503-842-2236. There is no cost to enter the contest.

Two rounds of judging will determine the top entry in the Amateur Mac-n-Cheese Contest. Entries will first compete in a preliminary event on Saturday, March 1 at the Tillamook Cheese Visitors Center. Entries will be judged on a variety of criteria such as appearance, flavor and aroma. The top scoring entries will then move on to compete at the finals during the Taste of Tillamook County on Saturday, March 15, where prizes will be awarded.

Taste of Tillamook County will be held March 15 and 16 at the Tillamook County Fairgrounds in Tillamook, Oregon. In addition to the Amateur Mac-n-Cheese Contest finals, the Taste of Tillamook County will be full of new and returning vendors offering delicious samples; there will be returning popular contests such as the Chef's Black Box Cooking Competition and the Professional Oyster Speed Shucking Contest; various demonstrations; music by local bands; and kid’s activities. The Taste of Tillamook County provides a fun, family-friendly event for both the local community and our out-of-town visitors. Proceeds from the event will benefit Tillamook County food programs.
