| About Community Food Programs in Tillamook County |
What are the Community Food Programs?
-
Community Food Programs mean that all
people at all times have access to safe, nutritious, affordable,
adequate and culturally appropriate food.
-
All people can get their food from
non-emergency sources.
-
Food is produced in ways that honor
and preserve the environment and the workers who bring it to the
marketplace.
Food Roots, Inc. is a
locally based non-profit community food organization serving Tillamook
County and the north Oregon coast. Food Roots exists to educate,
empower and engage the people and communities of the north Oregon
coast to grow a vibrant regional food system that is good for the
people, the economy and the land. For more information about Food
Roots, Inc. visit www.foodrootsnw.org.
The Regional Food Bank of Tillamook
County, a program of the Oregon Food Bank, supports and
coordinates hunger-relief efforts. The Regional Food Bank of
Tillamook County receives food from both Oregon Food Bank and local
donors. For more information, visit www.oregonfoodbank.org/Tillamook.
It is our hope that you'll understand that
the Food Banking system (in Tillamook County this includes the
Regional Food Bank, a program of Oregon Food Bank, and the many local
food pantries and feeding programs) is part of the EMERGENCY FOOD
SYSTEM. It is the goal of the Community Food Programs movement that
someday we won't need the emergency food system.
